Gabby Barrett delivered some emotional fireworks on the 2020 CMT Music Awards, performing her double platinum hit, “I Hope.”
A sleek, theatrical performance set in Nashville’s Bicentennial Park, the track was introduced by actress Idina Menzel, who noted the promise Barrett showed back when she was just a contestant on American Idol. But she’s evolved into a full-fledged artist of her own now, delivering stratospheric vocal runs and musically hoping a low-down cheater gets what he ultimately deserves.
Taking the stage alongside her newlywed husband Cade Foehner on lead guitar, Barrett started off seated in a jet-black jacket and bell bottoms combo, before standing up to scale the song’s emotional peak… all while smoke bombs and fireworks exploded behind her.
The mom-to-be earned two nominations with “I Hope” in Female Video of the Year and Breakthrough Video of the Year.
The 2020 CMT Music Awards air Wednesday, October 21st at 8:00PM ET/7:00PM CT on CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land.
