Gabby Barrett and her husband Cade Foehner welcomed their daughter Baylah May in January, and Barrett recently shared the meaning behind her daughter’s special name on The Bobby Bones Show.

“Cade’s sister’s name is Bailey Blane and I was just kind of trying to spin off of that because I like the name Bailey, but I wanted something that was a little more original,” she told Bones. “I was in the airport just messing with it and I was like, ‘Bailey, Baylah,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, I like Baylah’ and I put it down in my notes.”

Just like Baylah’s first name came from one her aunts, her middle name was inspired by another — Barrett’s sister.

“My sister was born in the month of May and so we did Baylah May,” she said.

Barrett and Foehner met as contestants on season 16 of American Idol and were married in October 2019. Barrett has had an explosive career since her stint on Idol, earning her first No. 1 hit with “I Hope” in April 2020. Her second single, “The Good Ones,” also reached the No. 1 spot on the charts and has spent three weeks there, as of April 27, 2021. Barrett also recently took home the ACM Award for New Female Artist of the Year.

Before welcoming Baylah, Barrett performed on the 2020 ACM, CMA and CMT Awards while pregnant. She often posts photos of their new addition on social media, and recently shared a snap of Baylah’s first time on a plane.

“First plane ride,” Barrett wrote alongside the photo of herself and her daughter looking out the plane window.
