Garth Brooks Admits He Might Have To Lip-Sync On Sunday’s ACM Awards

Garth Brooks

ACM Entertainer of the Year nominee Garth Brooks recently invited Sirius XM’s The Highway to attend one of his five concerts in Portland, Ore. where he participated in a Sirius XM Town Hall interview.

During the interview, which will air in its entirety on The Highway on Wednesday (4/15) at 11am ET, Brooks told fans that he may have to lip-sync his performance at Sunday’s ACM Awards. “After the first show … I won’t have a voice anyway,” he admitted.

If that’s the case, Brooks is prepared.

“Just in case we have to lip-sync, we taped a performance that was solely made for the awards show,” Brooks said. “So we don’t know if we’re lip-syncing or not, but my bet is, if I know Portland, we’re not going to get out of here with anything. And then you’ve got to fly down and do that show immediately. So we’ll see how that’s going to go.”

It won’t be the first time an artist has had to lip-sync at the ACMs. Rascal Flatts infamously lip-synced their 2014 ACM Awards performance after lead singer Gary LeVox lost his voice before the show.

The 50th ACM Awards, co-hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, will be broadcast LIVE from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 8:00 PM – 11:30PM ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.
