Garth Brooks is always ready to help his fellow singer/songwriter, so when a message went out asking for his help, he happily obliged.
It was during an episode of America’s Got Talent when judge Simon Cowell pleaded with the country star to write a song for finalist Michael Ketterer. And Brooks did not disappoint.
Shortly after Cowell put out the request, the Oklahoma native addressed it during his weekly Inside Studio G livestream, sharing that he’d consider the offer. After days of deliberation, Brooks and Ketterer confirmed that a song had been written.
Ketterer premiered the tune, called “The Courage to Love,” during the finale of the NBC smash on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
“Any fool can pull a trigger, anyone can start a fight / but to love is so much bigger, so beyond what’s black and white / and if we want to give our children a future that is bright / then the truth must be the answer and love must be the light,” sang Ketterer.
The performance earned him praise and applause from the audience, including Cowell, but wasn’t enough to take home the win. The hopeful ended up in fifth place on the show, with magician Shin Lim winning the top prize.
While he may not have won America’s Got Talent, Ketterer is eager to continue working with Brooks, as the singer has invited him to perform at his upcoming show at Notre Dame on Oct. 20.
