In joint celebration of Tennessee Tourism and Garth Brooks’ comeback after 15 years in retirement, the country superstar has announced that he will play a free show at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater in October.

During a press conference at Tennessee’s State Capitol Building today (Oct. 3), Governor Bill Haslam and Brooks took the podium to announce the momentous occasion in Music City. As a part of an initiative called “The Soundtrack of America,” Brooks will represent what Nashville is known for by bringing the face to country music for the project.

“When people think about what is really made in Tennessee, the thing that comes to mind quickest is music…we’re proud to say that Garth Brooks has been made in Tennessee, and he’s definitely part of the soundtrack of America,” Haslam said during the press conference.

Brooks, who is known for being one of the most successful country artists to date, is taking on the free performance to fans to thank them for their support as seven of his albums have sold over 10 million copies. The singer has sold a total of 138 million albums through his lengthy career in country music.

While the show is expected to be a toned-down version of his spectacular live shows, Brooks still plans to amp up the energy at the outdoor venue. Fans interested in snagging tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime show can find more details by following the Department of Tourism’s new Snapchat, @Tennessee. Lucky members of the social media app will receive codes starting today for the show at Ascend Amphitheater on October 24. Those who do not receive any tickets are able to watch the free performance on large screens at the Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville.
