The King of Country is returning to his throne, as George Strait announces rescheduled dates for his popular-but-postponed Strait to Vegas residency.

Emerging from a year-long halt in live music due to COVID-19, Strait will retake the stage at Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena for two highly anticipated make-up shows. Back on the books are concerts on Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14, with previously announced special guest Caitlyn Smith. And according to Strait, who stepped away from touring seven years ago, he’s been itching to get back in front of fans.

“The Ace in the Hole Band and I have been looking forward to this day for a year and a half,” Strait says in an official statement. “I cannot wait to see Vegas and all of my great fans once again. It’s been way too long. We will finally ride again. See you soon.”

The new shows are make-up dates for ones postponed in 2020, and tickets to those original concerts will be honored on the new dates. Tickets for August 28, 2020 will apply to the August 13, 2021 show, while August 29, 2020 tickets will apply to the August 14, 2021 show. Those unable to attend the rescheduled shows are eligible for a refund at the original point of purchase for the next 30 days, and additional tickets for the new dates are on sale now.

The news marks the continuation of an arena-residency started by Strait in 2016, following his retirement from large-scale touring in 2014. Instead, he now performs a handful of one-off concerts each year, and already had three sold-out performances under his belt buckle in 2020 before the pandemic set in.

Following his August comeback, George Strait will also take the stage at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium on November 13, 2021, with special guests Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town. And next year, Strait will appear at the massive Houston Livestock and Rodeo to celebrate its 90th anniversary.
