Country superstar George Strait is a proud resident of the Lone Star State and his devotion to home will soon be honored when he’s presented as the 2018 Texan of the Year. Chosen by the Texas State Legislative Conference for his Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, Strait will be presented with his award on Thursday, March 22 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center.

“No one has done more than George Strait to raise awareness and funds for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. He put his well-earned reputation on the line and asked not only his fellow Texans to step up, but all Americans. And they have,” said Conference Chair Doug Miller, a former Texas State representative (quote via PR Newswire).

To date, Strait has raised more than $50 million for Hurricane Harvey victims.

The Texas Legislative Conference, a nonpartisan organization, meets annually in New Braunfels to discuss public policy issues. The Texas business and political leaders that comprise the organization will concentrate on Hurricane Harvey impacts, March 2018 Primary Outcomes and the Federal Tax Plan impacts on Texas when they meet on Friday, March 23.

Past Texan of the Year honorees include George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, T Boone Pickens, Ray Benson, and David Robinson.
