Glen Campbell Enters Stage 7 of Alzheimer’s, His Wife Reports

Glen Campbell has been fiercely battling Alzheimer’s disease since 2011. In the years since his diagnosis, his wife of 34 years, Kim Woollen, has been providing fans with updates on her husband’s health.

In a recent interview, Woollen revealed that the “Rhinestone Cowboy” is in Stage 7 of the disease and is no longer able to communicate verbally.

Despite her husband’s non-verbal state, Kim admits to Studio 10 Live that he is “content” and “he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses, and he enjoys food.”

“Life’s made up of 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you respond to it,” she added. “Our family chose to rally together in love and laughter and to support one another and try to make the best of each day and cherish every moment that you have together.”

Stage 7 is the final stage of Alzheimer’s disease. According to Alzheimers.net, patients in this stage are nearing death. It notes that patients “lose ability to respond to their environment or communicate. While they may still be able to utter words and phrases, they have no insight into their condition and need assistance with all activities of daily living.”

Campbell’s journey was been well-documented in the farewell tour documentary, titled “Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me.” His final song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” was recorded in 2013.
