Granger Smith Drives Two Hours to Surprise Fan

"That is, to me, what it's all about. To see her face, to see that reaction... there's not a lot of times in music when you get to know for sure that you're doing something... something right," said Smith, as he himself fought back tears.

With the release of his ninth studio album, When The Good Guys Win, Granger Smith is proving just what it means to truly be a ‘good guy.’ To celebrate the release of the 14-song project, Smith decided to celebrate his fans, who allow him to make music for a living.

“So I’ve been calling all the fans that buy this new album and I talked to this one girl named Kirsten in Ohio,” Smith explained in a video posted to his Facebook that has quickly garnered more than one million views. “She was talking about how she wanted to go to my pop up shop in Akron, Ohio but she couldn’t because she had to work. So I asked her where she worked and she works at a place called Luckies Barn & Grill. So we’re driving there and we went two hours to Luckies Barn & Grill. This is my attempt to thank every single fan, no matter what it takes because I understand that buying records is pretty rare these days. It’s worth it for me to make that extra effort to thank ‘em.”

The clip shares Smith’s adventure to Luckies Barn & Grill to surprise Kirsten. Everything was going according to plan until they encountered one little hitch… she had already finished her shift and gone home.

With the help of a manager, Kirsten was called back to the restaurant under the pretense that her manager wanted to discuss how her earlier shift had been. “She’s going to think she’s getting fired on Halloween,” said Smith.

Once Kirsten was back at work, Smith and his crew made their way back into the kitchen to surprise the unsuspecting fan. Upon seeing his face, Kirsten burst into tears and quickly hugged the “Happens Like That” singer.

“I thought I maybe got fired,” said Kirsten as he regained her composure. “You’re not fired,” replied her manager.

“That is, to me, what it’s all about. To see her face, to see that reaction… there’s not a lot of times in music when you get to know for sure that you’re doing something… something right,” said Smith, as he himself fought back tears. “Her face told me we’re doing something right.”

Smith’s new album, When The Good Guys Win, is out now.
