Gwyneth Paltrow Takes Music ‘Very, Very Seriously’, Will Appear On CMT Insider This Weekend

Many country music fans are wondering if Gwyneth Paltrow has what it takes to make it as a country singer beyond her role in the film Country Strong, which also stars Tim McGraw. Director Shana Feste says she thinks Paltrow will be successful.

“She worked very hard on the music,” Feste tells People. “She worked with Byron Gallimore, who was Tim McGraw and Faith’s Hill’s producer … And she had guitar lessons and vocal lessons and she took it very, very seriously.”

“I just knew that she had the chops to do it and I thought that it was a surprising choice,” Feste said of Paltrow’s role in the movie. “She’s not who you’d think of when you think country singer. Your mind doesn’t immediately go to Gwyneth Paltrow, but I knew that she had the acting ability to pull it off.”

What do you think? Do you like her debut single “Country Strong?”

Paltrow will take the stage at the 44th Annual CMA Awards next month and will also appear on “CMT Insider” this Saturday at 1:30pm ET. Here’s a snippet of her interview with CMT’s Katie Cook:

Gwyneth on singing her own songs….

Katie: When you were considering the role of Kelly Canter, did you know from day 1, I want to do all my own singing on this?

Gwyneth: Yes definitely.
Gwyneth: I want the things that I focus on to pose real challenges, and that will kind of make me stretch in all directions so that when I come home, I'll feel fulfilled.
Gwyneth: When I saw how much singing there was, I though oh I'm up for this challenge, you know. I really am, and I was really excited to kind of study country music and fall in love with it in the process.

Gwyneth on working with Tim McGraw…

Katie: Did you like working with Tim?
Gwyneth: I loved working with Tim. He's great, and he's a really really talented actor. I was blown away by how good he was.

Gwyneth on her country influences for the film, including Tim's wife, Faith Hill….

Gwyneth: She helped me so much and continues to give me advice about singing and singing live and country music.
Gwyneth: I focused a lot on Faith for her soulfulness.
Gwyneth: I felt like Kelly has these two kind of very different sides to her. And one side of her I thought was a lot like Faith Hill. She aspired to be like that. But there was a kind of Courtney Love part of her or like a Shelby Lynn part of her that was fighting demons and incredibly talented and brilliant like those women.
