Hollywood Week on ‘American Idol’ Makes Some Brutal Cuts to Fan Favorites

As the new season of American Idol goes on, more contestants seal their fate during the grueling Hollywood Week portion of the series.

Cutting down the numbers to the nitty-gritty, some of America’s favorites are fighting hard to stay on board for the live shows and giving it their all during their solo performances. Caleb Lee Hutchinson raised the bar of talent quite high by letting his bass vocals tread beautifully over Josh Turner’s “Your Man.” Luke Bryan looked upon the performance as something so authentic, encouraging his fellow judges to hop on board the Hutchinson train.

Hutchinson looked pretty proud of his performance, and told cameras that he hoped he could soon tell his parents that he was moving on to the next round.

Gabby Barrett, who pranked her own father after winning a Golden Ticket, stunned the judging panel with her soulful rendition of “Ain’t No Way.” Bryan and Lionel Richie clapped with enthusiasm over the contestant’s jazzy riffs while Katy Perry sat with her eyes wide in amazement over Barrett’s vocal repertoire. She earned a standing ovation from Bryan once she finished, as well as love and happy tears from her dad in the audience.

The man of Perry’s dreams, more known as Trevor Holmes, left her proud of her man when he took on “Home” by Phillip Phillips. Although his performance left a mark on her heart and the rest of the audience, its simplicity is what shined above all during his time on stage. Perry couldn’t hold back her faux romantic feelings for Holmes though, as she sobbed over the lyrics she assumed that he dedicated to her.

Find out what happens to these contestants, and many others, on the new episodes of American Idol air on Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
