The Hot Country Knights are ready to shake off their COVID cobwebs, as Dierks Bentley’s comedy country side project finally books a gig. They’ll officially open Bentley’s upcoming club tour, dubbed High Times & Hangovers.

Mixing belly-laugh lyrics with overdriven ’90s-country theatrics — and a complete lack of self awareness — the group will be part of Bentley’s long awaited return to the road. The High Times & Hangovers Tour kicks off May 11 and features five shows in five nights, and marks both bands’ re-emergence after a year off the road. Bentley and front man “Doug Douglason” made the announcement in a side-splitting video piece, posted to social media on Thursday (May 6).

The clip shows Bentley and his actual band rehearsing for the tour, then calling Douglason to begrudgingly invite Hot Country Knights on tour. Killing time next to a back alley dumpster, Douglason tries to play it cool as Bentley extends the offer, but eventually agrees to take the work, settling on terms of “all the Taco Bell and McDonalds” the band can eat.

“IT IS HAPPENING!” Hot Country Knights wrote on Facebook. “The original Kings of Neon (that’s us) will be HEADLINING (appearing) on Dierks Bentley’s High Times and Hangovers tour. SEE YOU THERE!”

Hot Country Knights is made up of Bentley and his regular touring band, dressed in costume and adopting alter egos. They’ve been opening shows and playing one-off gigs for fun since 2015, and had released their debut album, The K Is Silent, just before the pandemic struck. The set featured hilarious country gems like “Pick Her Up” (featuring Travis Tritt), “Moose Knuckle Shuffle” and “The USA Begins With Us,” and the band had also planned a 2020 headlining One Knight Stand Tour, which was canceled. Dierks Bentley’s throwback High Times & Hangovers Tour of small clubs begins May 11 and finishes May 15, and also includes Cody Canada & the Departed. Tickets are on sale now.
