Ingrid Andress, who is known for her bold and honest writing and delivery, has released an honest new song about “casual dating” and the emotions entailed (or excluded) in it.

“Both” digs deeper into what the new social norm and sometimes-vague “casual dating” concept is like for some people. Putting their two cents worth together, Andress collaborated with songwriters Derrick Southerland and Jordan Schmidt to craft mid-tempo ballad and ultimatum statement that is going to resonate with many.

“You can tell me to stay, you can push me away, have space or get close, but you can’t do both / You can kiss me goodnight or kiss me goodbye, baby love me or don’t, but you can’t do both.”

Sharing on Facebook, Andress gave a little backstory behind “Both” song.

“I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a pro at relationships, but I do know it’s important to be honest with the person u want to be with. ‘Casually dating’ is a fun thing we do now, and I’m here for it. But that doesn’t mean u have to pretend u don’t want something deep and meaningful just because somebody isn’t emotionally ready for u. ‘Both’ is about sticking up for yourself and what you want in a relationship. I wrote this song for my friends, but I realize now that I wrote it for everybody.”

Hailing from Denver, Colorado, the music composition graduate from Berklee made her Warner Music Nashville debut with this year with female-empowering anthem “Lady Like” and the heart-tugging ballad “More Hearts Than Mine,” which has amassed a total of 1.5 million on-demand streams so far.

Last week, Andress was also announced as the newest “Highway Find” artist on Sirius XM’s country music channel The Highway. With that, “Both” and “More Hearts Than Mine” will be added into the program’s regular rotation, with “Lady Like” still being highlighted in the On The Horizon category.

The country songstress is set to play at Billboard LIVE’s CMA Fest kick off on June 3 with a special performance alongside fellow CMT Next Women of Country inductees Caylee Hammack, Lauren Jenkins and The Sisterhood Band. Then, later this week, she will join fellow label mates Cody Johnson, Hunter Hayes, Ashley McBryde and Tucker Beathard at Warner Music Nashville’s CMA Fest showcase at Ascend Amphitheater on June 8.
