Introducing… Chris Lane Band

Chris Lane Band - CountryMusicIsLove

If you haven’t heard of Chris Lane Band yet, you will soon. Hailing from Kernersville, North Carolina, the Chris Lane Band (CLB) consists of frontman Chris Lane (lead vocals, guitar), his twin brother Cory Lane (drums), Joseph Pope (lead guitar), Dean Kreseski (lead guitar), and Tom Sale (bass). CLB has spent much of the past few years playing the local scene in North Carolina. Most recently, CLB shared the stage with Country hitmakers such as Kip Moore, Rodney Atkins, Justin Moore, and Darius Rucker.

CountryMusicIsLove caught up with CLB lead singer Chris Lane during a recent trip to Music City. After a writing appointment on Music Row, Lane met us at a café in Downtown Nashville for a great chat. See what he had to say below.

CMIL: Which artist (or artists) inspire you?

CL: The person that I was most influenced by when I wanted to get into music was Keith Urban. He’s so entertaining. After seeing him live, I was like ‘you know what? I want to learn how to play the guitar. That’s what I want to do.’

CMIL: Would you say your music is influenced by anyone in particular?

CL: I don’t know if my music sounds like anyone, but it might be influenced by the different kinds of music that I’ve listened to. I went through phases. I think everybody does that. When I was younger, I listened to country ‘cause that’s what my parents listened to. As I got into high school, it changed over to rap. When I was in college, I really, really got into country music because of Keith Urban. I loved his songs so it kind of got me back into it, even though I didn’t forget all the songs I knew, I started listening to that more than pop or hip-hop. I barely even listen to hip-hop at this point.

CMIL: If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?

CL: Believe it or not, it may be a funny answer, but Taylor Swift. She’s awesome live. It would be an automatic sellout. I feel like I would do well in front of her crowd. I fell like my music would fit for that type set.

CMIL: If you weren’t pursuing a career in Country music, what would you be doing?

CL: Before I started music, my plan was to play baseball for the rest of my life; to get drafted out of college and all that kind of stuff, but too many injuries hindered that. I have an identical twin brother who actually got drafted out of college, but chose not to play. It’s funny how things work out ‘cause he plays drums in the band now. When I got home from school, I kind of jumped into landscaping ‘cause that’s what my dad did and he had a job open for both of us. I jumped into that and I was learning how to play the guitar at the same time. I’m very thankful and blessed that this is working out the way it is….or I might be doing landscaping.

CMIL: What’s it like being in a band? Do you all get along?

CL: It’s great. Everybody gets along. Obviously we have our times where people argue, but you know what? Everybody works together as a unit and it’s been awesome. I’m very lucky to have the guys that I’ve had. We’ve picked up new players here and there along the way, but we’ve been with the same band now for probably two years. It’s going really well.

CMIL: You’ve been spending a lot of time in Nashville lately. What have you been up to?

CL: This is my sixth or seventh trip to Nashville. I’m coming out here once a month. Publishers have been hooking me up with really good writers. Some of the writers that I’ve written with have over twenty number ones, so that part of it’s going really well. I’m excited about the songs that I’m getting at this point. I’m growing. I can’t wait to get the songs that I’ve recorded out there.

CMIL: Do you and the band have plans to relocate to Nashville anytime soon?

CL: You know, with everything that’s going on right now, obviously, I have to be in town. I am about to make the move soon enough. When they need to be here, the rest of the band will make their way here. Until then, I’ll have to write Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and then be on the road Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

CMIL: What’s next for CLB?

CL: There’s a lot of stuff I can’t talk about that’s in the works. A lot of awesome stuff I’m so excited about. You know what? I’ll let you know as soon as I’m allowed to let anybody know.
