Introducing… Jessie James Decker: Part 2
"We’re in charge of our schedules and we’re not going to let anything affect our time with our children and our family and if it keeps us away, we just don’t do it,” she shares.
For Jessie James Decker, pursuing a career in country music has always been a lifelong dream to fulfill. Now, the 28-year-old is ready to take on the world with her new single “Lights Down Low,” but not without the support of her family beside her.
Jessie and her husband, New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker, maintain a steady work-life balance by staying in control of their own schedules and never staying too long away from their children.
“My rule is to not be away from my kids more than three or four days and that’s pushing the limit. As long as Eric’s with them or I’m with them, we don’t leave them very long,” Jessie told Sounds Like Nashville. “But I will bring them on the bus and they’ll come out with me. Then there’s times where it’s too much for them and Eric will just keep them at home and I’ll just go do my business and come right back home.”
Jessie credits the dedication she has to her home life with her modest upbringing.
“I grew up such a down-to-earth Southern girl with my family in such a humble upbringing. I wasn’t one of those like ‘I can’t wait to not be like this and have a glamourous life.’ I didn’t think like that. I liked the way that I grew up,” she explained. “We are fortunate enough to have a little bit of the glam here and there, but he and I both feel most comfortable having more of just a humble lifestyle. It doesn’t become too overwhelming and if it does, we take a break. We’re in charge of our schedules and we’re not going to let anything affect our time with our children and our family and if it keeps us away, we just don’t do it.”
Because of the importance she places on family, Jessie wanted to highlight her normal life at home with Eric in the music video she calls “fun and playful” for her current single “Lights Down Low.” See what else she said about filming the clip in the video above.
