Jake Owen Previews New Music at Annual Fan Club Party
Jake Owen kicked off the 2013 CMA Music Festival Thursday morning with a room full of adoring fans at his Annual Fan Club Party. This year, the event was held at the newly finished Bridge Building, an event space in that overlooks the scenic Cumberland River and Downtown Nashville.
Owen took the stage to greet fans with his adorable 7-month-old daughter, Pearl, in his arms. With a huge smile on his face, Jake introduced her, acknowledging that this was her first (of what is sure to be many) fan club party. Pearl, who is clearly a daddy’s girl, did nothing but smile and giggle as fans snapped photos from the crowd.
After passing Pearl back to her mother, Jake explained that he planned to perform a handful of brand new tunes from his forthcoming album, including two potential new singles, “Days of Gold” and “Ghost Town.” Jake expressed that he wanted his fans’ opinion on the songs because he was heading to a meeting to determine the next single later in the day.
“I think I have a good idea of what I want to new single to be, but I want to know what they want,” Jake told CountryMusicIsLove prior to the fan club party. “They are the ones that support me, so I want to say ‘hey, what do you guys want to hear on the radio?’ and we will see what they say today.”
Jake, who has always been very accessible to his fans, knows the importance of having a strong, solid fan base.
“My fans are essentially the fuel to my engine, without them I don’t run anywhere,” he said. “I need them to fill me with ideas and give me reasons to get out on the road and give them more new music that they can sing to and relate to. That shows me I’m doing something that matters and that’s what drives me. I’m at the point now where I have a great fan base and I want to give them what they want.”
After playing both tracks, he prompted fans to vote for their favorite. While fans seemed to love both songs, the majority of the crowd was rooting for “Days of Gold,” which Jake believes to be a “risk” to send to Country radio. However, it appears it’s a risk he’s willing to take after seeing the fans respond so positively to the song. Both tracks have strong potential to be hits at Country radio, so listeners will be introduced to a new Jake Owen hit no matter which song he selects.
Jake went on to perform more new tracks including the groovy summertime jam “Beachin’” and “Life of the Party.” Before taking photos and signing autographs for fans, he also performed “Heaven,” a fan favorite from his latest album Barefoot Blue Jean Night.
Jake says fans can expect the new single to hit Country radio in July or August and a full album later this year.
