Jake Owen Review

One of our good friends, Katie, recently saw Jake Owen in concert in Chattanooga, TN. She did a GREAT job of recapping the show for us, so here’s Katie’s review in her own words…

Any time you get the chance to see Jake Owen, I highly recommend that you do it! You will not regret it. This was my third time to see him and I just keep becoming a bigger fan each time. He never disappoints, he brings great energy to the crowd, and he is blessed with the gift of knowing just how to make you melt. He is a man’s man, but also a ladies man. He has learned what the secret is to making both sexes rev up at the same time! There are not too many artists out there who are capable of doing that.

I first want to set the scene for this show: it is a comedy club, not very big, the stage can barely fit 3 people on it, there is no standing, everyone sits at tables, there were two very colorful women sitting in front of me who just L O V E Jake and about fell out at every song. “Easy Does It, ” was the request of the night from these two. And man, all I wanted to say to them was: “Hey, easy does it, keep it G rated!” I must say, Jake was pretty flirtatious with the two very colorful ladies! I was devilishly wanting them to get them out of the picture. The club is home for a local radio show called High Noon Saloon to bring in artists each month as an appreciation show. It has housed many BIG names before such as Keith Urban, Lee Ann Womack, Clay Walker, John Michael Montgomery, Heidi Newfield, and James Otto. Since this club is so small, it makes these shows very intimate and personal. And Jake, more so than others, does just that. In his shows here, there are lots of stories told, interaction with the crowd, and many beers to be given! The feeling is that you are the only one in the room with him and if you are close…you have your own private show! To me, I couldn’t ask for more.

Jake and his band come out, everyone has to creep through the people to get on the stage, thankfully no one is tacky and tries to grab any of them! There is a little boy at one of the front tables with this long blonde hair, standing on his mothers legs so that he could see. In his hand is a camera about as big as him taking pictures of Jake. Jake finishes his song (a fantastic cut off his next studio album), and says hello to the little boy. He waves back at Jake and Jake starts to ask him questions. The first question, “what is your name?” The little boy who couldn’t be any older than 3 says: “Alex.” We all laugh and aww because this precious little boy says his L as a W, so it comes out as Owlex. Jake asks his how he spells his name, does he spell it like “Owlex?” Alex says very kindly to him A L E X. We all clap and have a laugh. Jake tosses him a guitar pic and a really big smile.

He asked the crowd if he should finish a song that he has been working on, he said for the guys to take a break because he hasn’t even played it for them yet! The title is “All Night To Get There.” Let’s just say that we asked him to sing the chorus one more time. So Jake, if you are reading this, FINISH THE SONG! Chattanooga will make it a hit! For those of you who have maybe been to a recent show of his, maybe he has done the song “Damn.” He says that he doesn’t think that he will be recording this one, maybe live, but I assure you that if you hear it you will be in stitches laughing. He tells the story of why he felt the need to write this song. Bottom line, Kellie Pickler, you are the inspiration for this (her performance from the CMA’s)! The best line is “your momma should have named you…damn.” Moving right along from that, Jake, the sweetest son in the world, said that he always wanted to be able to sing to his mom one of her favorite singers songs. So, he learns James Taylor to sing to her. He went ahead and sang it for us too.

A track off of his upcoming album is called “Green Bananas”. He told us about the reason for the song. Jake knows just how to take something that has been said and make a story and a message out of it. It’s like the light bulb goes off in his head and he feels the need to write about it. It is a title that would make most people think what is that, what could he be talking about? Well, it has a great message to it, it is not in the least bit silly. I can’t wait for you all to hear it!

Another song off the new album is “Cherry On Top,” all I can say is WOW. This is a song that I will have on my phone, MySpace, iPod, EVERYWHERE! I can relate to this song so well, as I am sure that most girls can. There is a little bit of every girl in every song he writes! A line in the song talks about a girl dancing around in her panties after getting out of the shower, towel still wrapped on her head. Really, what man in their right mind even thinks about that? Oh, let me tell ya, Jake does. Most men don’t ever see that due to them just wanting to dance around with nothing on. Jake realizes that girls are goofy and silly, but are also sexy and demanding at the same time. Jake claims to know this stuff by living with sisters. Me, I think that Jake has the inside to a woman’s life when she is alone.

Thanks for taking the time to review the show for us Katie! It is such a descriptive review and we can’t wait to hear the new album!!!
