Singer/songwriter Jamie Gabrielle is sharing her heart in her new song, “Go To Your Head.” The flirty single finds Gabrielle telling a love interest exactly how he feels with no hesitation and hoping those words will create a bit of a buzz — just like a sip of whiskey.
“I would always be like, ‘Don’t let it go to your head’ whenever I would compliment someone, and I woke up one morning, and I was like, ‘You know what? No. I want it to go to their head,’” says Gabrielle in an exclusive interview with Sounds Like Nashville. “When you love someone and you care about someone, you should let it go to their head. You should tell them how you feel and be brave.”
Gabrielle released the song fresh off her time on ABC’s Listen To Your Heart, a new show that’s a mix between the love reality shows of The Bachelor franchise and a singing competition. She ended up placing second on the show and says she had a good experience navigating love and gaining confidence in her music career.
“I definitely came out of my shell a lot and grew a lot of confidence when it comes to performing and putting myself out there,” she says of the show. “I started off my whole life being a performer and then I sort of became a hermit and just started really focusing on my songwriting and not putting myself out there. I feel like I kind of was in this space of not really having a lot of confidence. I definitely was able to build that confidence through going on the show, and coming out now, I feel like hopefully that reflects in my music.”
Growing up in New Jersey, Jamie Gabrielle always knew she had a passion for music. From singing with her grandmother as a kid, to turning her poems into songs, to finally learning how to play piano, she was often surrounded by music. She was involved in musical theater as a child and then solidified her skills as a songwriting major at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Since the show, Gabrielle has made the move to Nashville and is ready to have her voice heard.
“I’m not scared to go against the grain,” she says. “I want to talk about things that aren’t always talked about in country music or in general. I want to sing about being aware of mental health and women empowerment, but also being vulnerable and being like, ‘It’s okay not to be confident, it’s okay to not always feel good about yourself.’ I also want to write songs that can boost people’s confidence.”
In addition to releasing “Go To Your Head,” Gabrielle says she is actively writing and recording new music that will be released soon.
