Jamie Lynn Spears Feels More Comfortable as a Mom After Second Child

Jamie Lynn Spears has come to the realization that many second-time parents figure out: it’s always easier with kid No. 2.

Spears was just a teen when she gave birth to her daughter, Maddie, and she made the sacrifice to give up acting and entertaining in order to raise her child. After years of experience and a gained sense of confidence in parenthood, the country singer found her groove and knows how to lay things out for her youngest daughter, Ivey.

“I’m much more sure of myself as a young mother [now]. As a new mother with your first child, you are questioning and guessing everything. And as you go into it the second time, you’re like, ‘I got this. I figured this out one time before; I can do it again.’ You have a little more confidence in yourself,” she said to People.

A huge factor that played into Spears’ development as a mother as well came with the helpful hand of her husband, Jamie Watson. The two wed back in 2014, and he’s been the rock of the family ever since.

“It’s important to have a partner who can pick up the slack where you can’t,” Spears said of her husband. “If you don’t have a supportive partner, it would be a different story. That’s been the biggest adjustment: finding that balance to where both kids have exactly what they need.”

Even Spears’ older daughter, Maddie, grasped her role as big sister by helping her mom out around the house when it comes to the little things. Maddie babysits when needed to, which takes a massive weight off Spears’ shoulders from time to time.

“It’s definitely a big help, having one who’s a little older,” Spears explained to the publication. “I can say, ‘Let me grab the clothes out of the dryer.’ And she can sit there with her for a second.”

Spears currently resides in her native Louisiana, where she continues to take time off to bond with her newborn and hang out with her family at home.
