Actress and former country music singer Jamie Lynn Spears is set to co-star in a new Netflix series titled Sweet Magnolias, joining the romantic drama’s star-studded cast.

Based on the popular novel series written by Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnolias will tell the story of three lifelong best friends in the quaint small town of Serenity, South Carolina. It centers on characters played by Monica Potter (Con Air, Saw), Brooke Elliot (Drop Dead Diva) and Tony and Grammy winner Heather Headley (Aida, Chicago Med), with Spears playing Noreen Fitzgibbons — a young nurse looking to restart her life after making a series of bad choices.

With Woods executive producing the show, Potter will bring Maddie Townsend to life, “a low-key but resolute, warm and loving woman with a vocabulary like Southern poetry.” Meanwhile, Elliot plays “former wild child” and “strong-willed owner/head chef of Sullivan’s Restaurant,” Dana Sue Sullivan. And Headley will play lawyer Helen Decatur, who is determined to “create an opportunity for the people of Serenity, her hometown.”

Other actors joining the series include American Pie and The Flash’s Chris Cline, who will play down-on-his-luck pediatrician Bill Townsend, and Good Behavior’s Justin Bruening, portraying a former baseball pro named Cal Maddox.

Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias will stretch out over 10 episodes, but there’s no word yet on when it will be released. Spears released the single “How Could I Want More” to country radio in 2013.
