Brittany and Jason Aldean had to say goodbye to their chameleon, Elvis, earlier this week. The couple bought Elvis originally thinking that he was a boy, but they soon found out the chameleon, which they renamed Elvira, was, in fact, a girl. In an Instagram story posted this week, Brittany revealed that Elvira was laying eggs when she developed a prolapsed cloaca, which happens when tissue comes out and cannot be pulled back in. The couple took Elvira to the vet and unfortunately had to put her down.

“One egg was still logged in her, so she just wasn’t able to pass it, and apparently in their little bodies it’s just too much,” she shared in an update. “The humane decision was to just to put her to sleep today. I know it’s just a chameleon, but I get very attached to my animals.”

She also added that she believes Elvira/Elvis is in a better place, saying, “She’s eating all the crickets in heaven right now.”

The couple announced the addition of Elvira in August with an Instagram post from Brittany. The post featured a photo of the reptile in her cage and a video of Jason holding her while their son, Memphis, pets her. Other pets owned by the couple include a rescue dog named Saint and a tan Pomeranian. Brittany has often been vocal about her love for animals and shared the loss of her dog, Bentley, who passed away in 2018.
