Jason Aldean on Golfing With Donald Trump: ‘We Kind of Hit It Off’
Aldean gives a little more info on his New Year's trip to Mar-a-lago.
Country superstar Jason Aldean has become more vocal about his political views in the last year, and along with wife Brittany, can often be found wearing T-shirts with slogans of support for former President Donald Trump. But recently he met with Trump himself, and now says the two “kind of hit it off.”
Speaking with Audacy’s Rob + Holly, Aldean explained a little more of the backstory to his New Year’s trip to Trump’s Mar-a-lago resort in Florida. Just after the holiday, he posted a series of photos taken with the former commander in chief, noting that he “got to spend a couple days with the G.O.A.T,” golfing and celebrating in black-tie style. According to Aldean, the former President can hold his own on 18 holes. Trump even gave Aldean a few pointers.
“Yea, [Trump’s] pretty good … he plays about four days a week, I think,” the country star said. “He’s pretty solid.”
Aldean went on to say that he thinks he was invited because Trump had become aware of his public support, which included an Instagram post opposing vaccine mandates for school children. Aldean was nervous to meet the former leader of the free world, however, and wondered if Trump would be upset the singer wasn’t a great golfer. Luckily, they ended the round on good terms.
“Does [Trump] expect me to be good? Because if he’s expecting me to come out and be good, then he’s probably going to be really pissed off after a couple of holes,” Aldean worried. “By the end of the day, it was cool. Felt like we kind of hit it off and kind of became friends. It was cool.”
In the interview, Aldean also talks about his new single, “Trouble With a Heartbreak,” and more. Check it out in the player above.
