Country superstar Jason Aldean has reportedly sold the vast majority of his recorded catalog, making a deal worth $100 Million or more with independent publisher, Spirit Music Group.

Announcing the news on Thursday (February 24), the multi-platinum hit maker confirms the big-money deal applies to 90 percent of his first nine albums, from his self-titled 2005 debut to 2019’s 9. Spirit Music Group now owns the rights to master recordings made by Aldean during that time, as well as “neighboring rights and SoundExchange royalties.” Aldean is keeping income interest, however, and his longtime label BBR Music Group keeps its ownership percentage.

The deal does not apply to Aldean’s new double album, Macon, Georgia, and he can still play all his old songs live, but he says the move helps position his work for the future. It puts him in step with other iconic artists who have sold their work, including Bob Dylan ($300 Million to Universal in 2020) and Bruce Springsteen ($500 Million to Sony in 2021).

“It’s cool that a company like Spirit, that’s been around so long, has taken on my music catalog. It’s something really important to me, so I’m glad it’ll be looked after,” Aldean says in the announcement.

“Jason Aldean has been a consistent hitmaker and trailblazer in country music for nearly two decades. His recordings have helped define the sound of modern country music. Spirit Music Group is excited to partner with Jason and we look forward to further championing these important recordings to the world,” said Frank Rogers, CEO, Spirit Music Nashville.

“Jason Aldean is one of country music’s elite headliners and the breadth and depth of his work is undeniable,” said Jon Singer, Chairman, Spirit Music Group. “We welcome Jason’s impressive collection of works to the Spirit Music Group catalog and are committed to being an active partner in safeguarding and building upon the success of these recordings.”
