American Idol has been known for getting all sorts of people to come and audition for their chance to become a superstar. 15-year-old Jeneve Mitchell may be one of the most unique hopefuls the show has ever seen.

Mitchell lives with her parents in Saddle Mountain, near Crawford, CO, and the family lives off the grid. What’s that, you ask? No electricity!

The student explained that there are no power lines leading to her home. “We turn on a generator twice a week for American Idol. Idol is pretty much the only thing we turn on the generator for.”

Mitchell made her way from her powerless home (with her cello!) to audition for the final season of the hit show, where she sang The Band Perry’s “Chainsaw” for the judges.

“You got good originality,” judge Keith Urban said. “Your rhythmic sensibility, the way you sing and play at the same time, it’s really compelling. I really liked it.”

“That was some crazy, stupid funk you were playing. That’s very, very impressive. Like, you’re a work in progress, but boy, there’s a lot to work with,” Harry Connick, Jr. added.

“We were kind of impressed by you,” concluded Jennifer Lopez before handing the teenager her golden ticket to Hollywood.
