Jennifer Nettles Parts Ways with Universal Music Group

Jennifer Nettles, who rose to fame has half of the award-winning duo Sugarland, has parted ways with Universal Music Group.

“I want to thank Universal Nashville for 11 wonderful years,” the singer tells Billboard exclusively. “This change is the first step on a path I’ve been wanting to take. I am so excited about the next part of my journey and I invite my fans to stay tuned.”

After a successful run with Sugarland, Nettles embarked on a solo journey, which led to the release of her album That Girl in January 2014. The album’s singles failed to do much at country radio, however. The title cut peaked at No.37 on the charts.

This news comes just days after the release of Nettles’ new single, “Sugar.”

Although the Georgia native has cut ties with Universal Music Group for her solo work, Billboard reports that the label’s Mercury imprint still has rights to future Sugarland albums.
