AMERICAN IDOL – “410 (All Star Duets and Solos)” – Following last week’s Showstopper round, “American Idol” continues with the All Star Duet and Solo round, SUNDAY, APRIL 4 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/Eric McCandless) JIMMIE ALLEN, ALANIS SOPHIA

It was ten years ago that Jimmie Allen made his appearance on American Idol as a hopeful contestant. Unfortunately, his dreams were cut short as he was eliminated shortly after the Hollywood Week round. But the singer didn’t give up and is back on the show, this time as an All-Star Duet partner.

In addition to his performance with contestant Cecil Ray, Allen also performed with Alanis Sophia. The two teamed up for a stand-out performance of “Shallow,” the breakout track from A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Going into the performance, however, Sophia was worried about being compared to Gaga’s performance.

“I feel like I tell everyone that wants to be a singer, Idol’s one of the best ways to really assess your talent,” Allen shared. “Mental toughness is super important on American Idol. Because if you get so wrapped up in how great everyone else sings, you can sometimes not deliver your best because you’re worried about how great someone else is.”

“In order for Alanis to succeed, she just has to sing it — like Lady Gaga never did it,” Allen encouraged.

The performance brought judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie to their feet, but they collectively agreed that Allen overshadowed the young contestant. They also noted that they were more impressed with her solo performance of Sia’s “Alive.”

The All-Star Duets round continues tonight (4/5) with an appearance from Jason Aldean. American Idol airs live Sundays and Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
