Joey Feek Sets Goal To Live To See 2016 Grammys

The nominations for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards were revealed yesterday, and in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance, a surprising nominee was revealed. Joey + Rory were nominated for their song “If I Needed You.”

“…woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of “If I Needed You” was nominated for a Grammy. As her excitement and tears flowed into mine. She said, “how can that be? ” ….the song received no radio airplay… no press… no critical acclaim… and the only music video we made for it was to celebrate the day our little Indiana was born. God is so good. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Rory wrote on Facebook following the nominations.

The two have spent the last year fighting Joey’s Stave IV Cervical cancer with faith and prayer. Despite all treatments, her cancer continued to spread and they made the decision to stop radiation and chemotherapy in October.

“Joey and I woke (Monday) morning just thankful for the chance to have another day to be together,” Rory told The Tennessean. “That was enough. When you honestly don’t know what tomorrow will bring, you don’t think any farther than today. But hearing the news brought not only tears and smiles, it has brought us hope.”

With the news of their Grammy nomination, Joey is fighting harder than ever for three reasons… to attend the Grammys on Feb. 15, release their album of hymns on Feb. 14, and see her baby Indiana turn two on Feb. 17.

“Joey set a personal goal (Monday) morning of being here for all three,” added Rory. “She’s so faith-filled and determined, don’t be surprised if you see us sitting in the audience at the award show, holding hands and smiling when they open the ballot and read the winner’s name.”

The 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards air February 15, 2016 on CBS at 8/7c. See the full list of country music nominations HERE. Click HERE to view the full list of nominees at GRAMMY.com.
