Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton Bring the BRITS to Church with ‘Say Something’
Stapleton surprised the audience as Timberlake kicked off his performance with a pumped-up version of "Midnight Summer Jam."
Sometimes the best way to ‘Say Something’ at the BRIT Awards in London is to bring a duet partner and a gospel choir to raise the performance bar high for the night, which is exactly what Justin Timberlake did.
The pop sensation opened up the 2018 BRIT Awards held at the O2 Arena in London with a dance-filled rendition of his album cut, “Midnight Summer Jam.” Showing off his suave moves and boogieing the night away, Timberlake got the energy flowing throughout the crowd before making a drum-kit transition into his next on-stage masterpiece.
Queueing in the more acoustic sounds of “Say Something,” Timberlake broke down the beat into the simplistic melody of his duet. But he couldn’t do the performance alone as Chris Stapleton came on stage with his guitar and all to help out his fellow Tennessee buddy. The two gave the audience some soul within their own harmonies before a choir of gospel singers flooded the arena for that spiritual sound.
The two built up the climax with the help of their background singers as Stapleton strummed on to Timberlake’s groove. Receiving a huge round of applause for their incredible entrance to the show, the pair captivated the room in a way that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Timberlake and Stapleton have performed together quite a few times since they released “Say Something” to the masses at the beginning of the year. Along with their BRITS appearance, they also played just following the Super Bowl for a special version of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hopefully, fans can see the song live whenever either artist hits the road for tour later this year.
“Say Something” can be found as one of the tracks on Timberlake’s latest album, Man of the Woods, which is available everywhere now.
