Pop superstar and Tennessee native Justin Timberlake is helping wave the green flag on the first Music City Grand Prix, a car racing event scheduled for this summer in Nashville.
In an announcement made Thursday (February 4), the actor and singer-songwriter was revealed as part of the unique race’s ownership group.
Timberlake joins a group with a wide range of experience helping bring the race to life — and they’ll need it to pull their ambitious plan off. Set for August 6 – 8, 2021, the street race will find high-horsepower Indycars screaming through Nashville’s urban core and beyond. A temporary 2.17-mile grand prix circuit has already been laid out, winding from the Nissan Stadium complex across Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge and down a part of Hermitage Ave — and by crossing the Cumberland River, the Music City Grand Prix will be one of the only events in motorsports to cross over a major body of water.
Meanwhile, the weekend will also celebrate everything else Nashville has to offer, with an estimated 100,000 race fans treated to live music from “top artists,” chef-curated food experiences and more over three fun-filled days. Along with Timberlake, new members of the ownership group include former Delta Airlines Chief Operating Officer Gil West and NASCAR team owner and driver Justin Marks. The news may come as a surprise to some, but it’s not the first time Justin Timberlake has invested in Nashville’s growing sports-entertainment industry. He’s also part of the team hoping to bring a Major League Baseball franchise to Music City, backing a bold plan to found the Nashville Stars.
