"Put your makeup on girl, stand up straight / Your face will take you farther than your brain / You oughta know by now, beauty is pain."

Rising star Kassi Ashton has released a thoughtful and poignant new song called “Pretty Shiny Things.”

The heart-wrenching ballad sings to that fact that while objects (and people) may appear to be all glitter and gold, there is more to them than an outward appearance.

“Pretty shiny things, I’m one of her pretty shiny things / She says there ain’t a secret you can’t hide / bottle it up on the inside / Put your makeup on girl, stand up straight / Your face will take you farther than your brain / You oughta know by now, beauty is pain,” she sings in the soaring ballad.

“Three years ago, this song was there for me in the middle of the night. Like a diary entry that was writing me, not me writing it,” shared Ashton of the song. “It has silently waited, given guidance and reminded me that honest art is the best art. I’m honored to be passing it along to whoever needs it now.”

With the incredibly vulnerable song, the California, Missouri native released an equally raw and emotional lyric video (watch it above).

Fans can catch Ashton out on the road this summer festival season with stops at CMA Fest in Nashville, TN, LakeShake Fest in Chicago, IL, Hometown Rising in Louisville, KY and Country Concert in Ft. Loramie, OH.
