Keith Urban is back in his element as summer turns into fall of 2021, thrilling live audiences from the stage. He did so on NBC’s TODAY show on Friday (September 3), and after rocking his new single “Wild Hearts,” the country heartthrob stuck around to chat.

Following up his Citi Summer Music series — which took over New York City’s TODAY Plaza with real live fans — Urban spoke with hosts like Al Roker about getting back onstage, and he called it a “breath of fresh air.”

“Playing a show on Zoom is like standing outside the window of a nightclub,” he said, drawing out laughs from his hosts.

Urban went on to explain why music is better than sports (everybody is rooting for the same team), and also checked in about his family life. He actually proposed to wife Nicole Kidman in New York — right on the banks of the Hudson River, he explained — and they’ve now been married for 15 years. The couple marked the anniversary in heartfelt social media posts in June.

Meanwhile, Urban shared a little about how he and the family spent their time in 2020. They stayed in Nashville through July, he explained, and then spent a few months in Australia so Kidman could get back to filming. And later the country superstar said he can’t wait to get to Las Vegas for the return of his Keith Urban Live — Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Ceaser’s Palace, which was cut short by the pandemic. Soon, he’ll even be filming the official video for “Wild Hearts.”

To watch it on TV, the nationally-broadcast spot was all smooth sailing, something the hit maker has done a million times. But behind the scenes, Urban was seeing “red.” Check out the minor medical emergency he shared with fans before the gig. The show must go on!
