No love story shines as bright in the country music industry as the romance between Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman.

The two lovebirds tied the knot more than 10 years ago, and have built a family together with both of their adorable daughters. Looking upon the incredible life they’ve made with one another, Urban uses that source of insight to apply to his songwriting whenever he wants to break into a passionate ballad. But the singer swears it’s all thanks to his adoring wife.

“Back before I met Nic and got married, I sucked at relationships and couldn’t give myself to the relationship. I’d write from a place in romance songs that I wanted to be at, but wasn’t at that place. And I realized I was writing from all these places of the kind of person I wished I could be. I wasn’t that person, but I wanted to be. It was only a song but my real life was a disaster. The only thing that’s changed in my life is I’ve more so become the person I was trying to be,” Urban explained during his SXSW panel.

Kidman also does her fair share of work as well, acting on hit shows like Big Little Lies and earning great acclaim from Hollywood for her dedication to her movie roles. That work ethic also led Urban to follow in her footsteps and believe he could accomplish anything he set his mind to in his music because his lover approaches her career in that light as well.

“Nic inspired me to try anything, to do anything…because that’s how she approaches her own work,” he said.

They also agree upon the main motto of their relationship, which falls under the lines of, “Nothing to hide and everything to protect.”

Currently, Urban is finishing up the mixes for Graffiti U, which is set to release sometime this year.
