When Keith Urban set out to make his latest record, Graffiti U, he enlisted the help of one of pop music’s most promising singer/songwriters, Julia Michaels. During their first writing session, the two wrote “Gemini,” a tribute to Urban’s wife Nicole Kidman.

After that first encounter, the Australia native reached out to Michaels once again. This time for help on his song “Coming Home.”

“He said, ‘I have this other song that I really love that I’m working on. Can you come and see if this is something you want to do?'” Michaels shared during an interview with Radio Disney Country’s Close Up Spot. “I was like, ‘Yeah, definitely!’ And it’s basically done. I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? This is amazing!'”

The bond between the artists has since become very tight. To thank her for her efforts on Graffiti U, Urban gifted Michaels with a personal gift of a Steinway piano.

Sleep deprived after a tour with former One Directioner Niall Horan, Michaels was not expecting the gift to be in her home when she arrived in the states. A friend let her know that something was waiting for her inside so she set out to look for the surprise.

“I was like, ‘Oh goodness, I’m so tired. We’ve been traveling all day,'” she recalled. “We had just come back from Portugal, 14 hours on flights …I get in my house and I’m walking around, trying to figure out what’s different. And then I look and I’m like, ‘Is that a piano?'”

The gift was so surprising and thoughtful that she could hardly comprehend what had happened.

“I was in shock. I think I hugged it for an hour,” she explained.

Michaels later shared a video of the upright piano, complete with a big red bow, on Instagram, thanking her new friend for the present.

“Tonight i came home from tour to this. I was completely and utterly surprised when I walked through my door. @keithurban this is the most beautiful and special gift I’ve ever received. My new house feels like a home now because of you. Thank you for this incredibly thoughtful housewarming present. I will never take this Piano, or this moment for granted. ❤️ love you scorp ❤️,” she wrote.

The two will continue their special bond as their collaborative effort, “Coming Home,” sits in the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.
