Keith Urban Talks ‘American Idol’

American Idol Season 14

Tonight, Keith Urban and fellow “American Idol” judges Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez will return to the judges’ table for Hollywood week of “American Idol..”

As the search for the next American Idol continues, Urban reveals that there are some changes in store this season.

Urban says one of those changes is that the Top 48 contestants will get dose of what it’s like performing live before hitting the big stage.

“We took them into the House of Blues in Los Angeles to put them in a live club setting where the band is set up, and they got up to on stage to do a song each in front of the audience in that club,” Keith reveals. “And we’d never done that before.”

He adds that it’s and important of the process, because the contestants are only in audition rooms most of the time, which doesn’t expose them to the feel of a live audience.

“Can they perform? Do they know how to perform live? Do they know how to move and connect with an audience? So, that was a really telling environment to have them in,” he shares. “And I’m really glad we got to do that.”

Fans can tune in to “American Idol” tonight at 8/7c on Fox.
