Kelly Clarkson recently revealed that she will be teaming up with Brett Eldredge to release a Christmas-themed duet this year. She told Willie Geist on his podcast, Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist, that the tune is an original that she wrote, and it will accompany another Christmas release by her, which will be a cover song.

“I actually have a couple Christmas things dropping too, that were very random,” she said in the interview. ”A duet with Brett Eldredge, who I love, that I wrote, and a cover song. So it’s like an A/B side thing that’s coming out for Christmas.”

Clarkson explained that she wanted to release the Christmas songs to give fans a taste of new music before she drops her next full album.

“Fans are always asking, ‘Can you just drop anything?’ Everyone is sad. Everyone is feeling it,” she says.

The Christmas tunes will be Clarkson’s second holiday-themed release, following her 2013 album, Wrapped In Red. Eldredge is also no stranger to singing about the holiday spirit, as he released his Christmas album, Glow, in 2016, and has embarked on multiple holiday tours.

In addition to revealing the news about the holiday songs, Clarkson shared details about her new album, due out next year, which will follow the story of a relationship.

“This next record, this will probably be the most personal one I’ve ever released,” said Clarkson, who has been in the midst of a divorce this summer. ”The whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship, to the end of what it is now.”

”It’s been very therapeutic for me. It’s very honest,” she added.
