Carrie Underwood has been through a tumultuous time over the past year and a half. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning the “Love Wins” singer shared that she’d gone through three consecutive miscarriages before learning she was once again pregnant.

The news resonated around the world and Underwood’s fellow American Idol alumni Kelly Clarkson, was quick to praise the Oklahoma native with her openness and honesty, while also congratulating her on her current pregnancy.

“I’m so happy for her,” Clarkson told Entertainment Tonight during the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival, where both women were set to perform. “I didn’t know a lot of the situations that were going on behind the scenes, and I have a lot of friends that have gone through [miscarriage] several times as well.”

Adding that she emailed Underwood right away, Clarkson continued, “It’s so important that you talk about it. I know you don’t have to because it’s a hard thing to do, but it makes women that feel inferior, or feel like something’s wrong with them, it makes them feel comfortable, and [know] that [other] people go through it.’”

Underwood opened up about her losses during an interview with CBS This Morning, sharing that “2017 wasn’t how I imagined it.”

After going through the three miscarriages, Underwood thought she was about to have a fourth.

“Mike was away just for the evening, and I texted him, and I was like, ‘I don’t really want to be alone, so I’m just gonna go snuggle with Isaiah.’ I don’t know how I didn’t wake him up, but I was just sobbing,” Underwood said. “And I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? … Either shut the door or let me have a kid.’”

She went to the doctor the following Monday only to learn that her prayers had been answered and her baby was growing and healthy.

Underwood isn’t the first star to open up about her pregnancy struggles. Recently, both Jana Kramer and Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany have shared their trials, whether it be miscarriage or fertilization problems in hopes of normalizing the conversation and letting other women going through the same issues know they are not alone.

Each of the women–Underwood, Kramer and Aldean–are currently pregnant with their second child.
