Kelly Clarkson holds great pride for being a strong Texas lady, so her performance of “American Woman” made a bold statement at the 2018 CMT Music Awards.

A small choir instantly intrigued the audience for the explosion about to go down on stage as Clarkson looked edgy yet gorgeous in her leather ensemble. Proving her power in her voice, the American Idol alum didn’t shy away from the big notes or the wild reaction from the fans out and about.

The version by Clarkson will be used as a part of the upcoming Paramount Network series called American Woman. The show is based off of the childhood of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Kyle Richards, and all of the crazy moments she endured as a young girl.

The Guess Who were the original performers of the track, with Lenny Kravitz spinning the sound of the hit decades later. Clarkson added her own soulful element to the lyrics, but still kept the electric guitar vibe alive in her live rendition of the song.

The 2018 CMT Music Awards were hosted by Little Big Town, and aired live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville.
