Kelly Clarkson Bares Emotions During ‘Piece By Piece’ On American Idol

Kelly Clarkson made her return to American Idol tonight with the very emotional performance of her hit song, “Piece by Piece.”

The Texas native prefaced her performance throughout the show by letting fans know how emotional the lyrics are and how it’d likely be impossible to sing without getting choked up, especially with pregnancy hormones.

From the very first note, Clarkson’s performance captivated the entire Idol audience, as well as bringing the entire judging panel to tears. Keith Urban, who is the father of two little girls and also lost his father just weeks ago, was seen with tears rolling down his face.

The song about meeting a man who didn’t leave like her father did was penned while she was pregnant with her first child, the now 20-month old River Rose. It also played an important part when she announced her second pregnancy, later revealed to be a boy, during her show at the Los Angeles Staples Center in August.
