Kelsea Ballerini and Anthony Mackie to Host 2022 CMT Music Awards

Kelsea Ballerini and actor Anthony Mackie have been revealed as the hosts of the 2022 CMT Music Awards, coming to CBS for the first time on April 11.

Announcing the news Thursday (March 10), CMT is tapping Ballerini as co-host for the second year running. She’ll now be joined by the film star best known as Sam Wilson/The Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War and many others. Ballerini co-hosted with Kane Brown last year.

“I’m thrilled to be returning as host at this year’s CMT Awards with Anthony Mackie!” Ballerini says. “This award show is always a special one, as it revolves around the fans and celebrates their favorite artists. This year is especially cool to be a part of as CMT grows into a network spot and expands for even more fans to get involved. It’s going to be a big one and I can’t wait!”

“I had the pleasure of presenting at last year’s CMT Music Awards and received the warmest welcome from the country music community and the city of Nashville,” Mackie adds. “I can’t wait to get back to Music City to co-host this year’s awards with the amazing Kelsea Ballerini.”

Known as the only 100-percent fan-voted country music awards show, the 2022 CMT Music Awards will air on CBS April 11 at 8 pm ET, featuring three hours of live performances in and around Nashville. Nominations will be announced Wednesday, March 16, and fan voting will start immediately, with performers and presenters to be announced later.

Ballerini just finished up appearing with Dolly Parton at the 57th annual ACM Awards, where she sang a duet on the icon’s new single, “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans.” The returning host also notched another Number One this week with “Half of My Hometown (featuring Kenny Chesney).”

The 2022 CMT Music Awards were originally set to air a week earlier, before the surging Omicron variant of COVID-19 forced the 64th annual GRAMMY Awards to be postponed. Read more here.
