Kelsea Ballerini took part in Sunday night’s (April 5) ACM Presents: Our Country, turning in an extra-supportive rendition of her emotional standout, “Homecoming Queen.”
Admitting that the night was not how she expected things to go — the show took the place of the postponed 55th ACM Awards — Ballerini said that despite the circumstances, she was reminded of what music can do for people. As such, her touching single from 2019 was a perfect choice.
All about the idea that everyone goes through hard times and struggle — even the supposedly-perfect homecoming queens of the world — her performance served as a reminder that none of us is alone in our fight to overcome the coronavirus outbreak. Accompanying herself with delicate, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, Ballerini let her tender voice lilt and crack as she sang, giving her Gold certified shoulder-to-cry-on ballad even more heart-forward heft.
ACM Presents: Our Country featured multiple performances and video messages from the genre’s stars, all delivered from their homes as they participate in social distancing.
