Kenny Chesney Celebrates His Dog’s 9th Birthday
Happy birthday, Poncho!
Kenny Chesney is celebrating the birthday of a very special family member: his dog, Poncho! The singer shared an Instagram post in honor of the pup’s 9th birthday on Friday, October, 2nd. The post featured two photos of Chesney and his loyal friend sitting by the water.
“Happy 9th birthday to Poncho,” he wrote alongside the photos.
Chesney adopted Poncho, a Goldendoodle, in 2012. He told People at the time that he received him from a friend.

“A friend gave it to me and said, ‘Here, Kenny, you have to learn to attach to something!’ God’s honest truth!” Chesney told the publication. “Now, I love the guy.”
“Next thing you know, next day at PetSmart, I’m buying stuff, buying things and I have no idea,” he continued.
Since then, Poncho has made a few appearances on Chesney’s social media pages and even starred in his music video for “Come Over.” Soon after adopting him, Chesney says Poncho become quite the water dog, which is proven in the music video, as the pup is seen paddle boarding with his dad.
“That little guy, he’ll eat everything in sight – whether it’s edible or not – and he loves the water,” Chesney told People. “I took him down to my boat, and he jumps right off.”
Chesney has not been on the road this year due to the pandemic. Instead, he seems to be spending time near the water and has posted a few updates from the beach and his boat. Although he hasn’t been touring, he did get on a stage with actor Matthew McConaughey and football player Drew Brees in New Orleans recently. Chesney posted a photo of the three of them, with guitars in hand, from the show.
“What a fun night jamming with Matthew and Drew in New Orleans,” he wrote.
