Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick took to Instagram on Sunday to cover John Prine’s “In Spite Of Ourselves.” The two traded lines on the song while Bacon played a mandolin and Sedgwick played a ukulele. The tribute was to show support for Prine, who was recently announced to be in critical condition due to COVID-19.

“My heart goes out to John Prine and his family at this difficult time,” wrote Bacon. “John’s music has touched [Sedgwick] and I so much. We’ve spent the past two weeks learning his songs while social distancing and staying home. This is take 37 we recorded a week ago of one of our favorite songs of his. His songs have brought us so much laughter, joy, love, and even brought us closer together during this tough time. Let’s all send good wishes and strength to him when he needs it most.”

The Prine family shared the singer’s diagnosis over the weekend, saying that he had been hospitalized on Thursday and intubated on Saturday evening.

“This is hard news for us to share,” they wrote. “But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send on more of that love and support him now. And know that we love you, and John loves you.”
