He started out as counterterrorism agent and landed himself in the White House, but now Kiefer Sutherland is switching sides up a bit in the new music video for his song, “Shirley Jean.”

Set in a historic correctional facility featuring a cast member from the film, Prison Break, Sutherland walks the jail cell halls while showcasing a man locked up who remembers the love once shared with the title girl. With flashbacks of a criminal writing a letter to his lady on the outside, the actor-turned-country singer reminisces the romantic feelings once experienced within a long-lost relationship as the overseeing narrator.

Taking a Johnny Cash approach to both his vocals and storytelling through the lyrics, Sutherland channels the weeping heartache and longing for a romance gone by. Revealing a horrific lethal ending, the jailbird in chains winds up in the death penalty chair thinking of his one and only on his last night alive.

Although most fans of Sutherland know him for his work on television shows like 24 and Designated Survivor, he also balances his acting career with country music. Performing intimate shows whenever he gets the chance as well as rocking out at Stagecoach recently, Sutherland has created quite the country fan base while strumming on his banjo.

“Shirley Jean” is Sutherland’s latest release off of his album, Down in a Hole, which is available now.
