It had been a long time coming for Kree Harrison when she finally got the call to be on American Idol. She didn’t know it then, but just one show would change her life forever.

Harrison started working hard for her music dreams from quite a young age. At merely 10 years old, Harrison and her family moved to Nashville in order for her to pursue a singing career. Throughout years of trials and tribulations with writing and performing in Music City, she took her voice to the hit series, American Idol.

While she finished as the runner-up for season 12, Harrison still landed the experience of a lifetime. As American Idol said goodbye to television this year, she was there to soak it all up and show her thanks to the series that got her to where she is now.

“It’s kinda weird how you have these complete strangers who are very different in every way and yet you have this crazy bond that your friends back home wouldn’t because the Idol family is definitely a thing,” she said. “All of it, I tried to sink in.”

But it wasn’t all sadness and sentimental moments. Harrison admitted there ain’t no party like an Idol party.

“It was crazy! I mean it was fun meeting some of the past contestants that I have been fans of and never met. A lot of tears, laughs and whiskey,” she said.

Of course, Harrison didn’t just hang with her Idol fam. She got in with the crew and other guests as well.

“I hadn’t hung out with J. Lo before. So that was fun. She’s genuinely the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Although Idol is in the past, Harrison is thrilled for the future. With her new album, This Old Thing, coming out sometime at the end of summer and the title track out now, she knows there’s so much more on the horizon for fans to get excited about.

The title track itself sets the bar high for the rest of her record. Its soulful tones pair well with the upbeat lyrics and mirrors Harrison’s cool country vibe that she’s going for.

“I just feel like it’s a good, happy medium of…kinda like the heart of the record. You know it’s soulful, it’s country, it’s fun to play and I hope people really like it,” said Harrison.

With timeless lyrics and vintage-made-new sound like no other, Harrison is on her way to becoming a country idol all her own.
