Kristian Bush - Southern Gravity

Today (April 7) marks the release of Kristian Bush’s solo album, Southern Gravity. The project is the culmination of exploration and the singer-songwriter’s desire to learn. The Sugarland member spent nearly two years writing 300 songs for the project.

“I realized, in a very humbling way, that I’m at the very beginning of figuring out how to write songs,” he tells CountryMusicIsLove.

The project’s first single, “Trailer Hitch,” is an infectious tune about a man who partakes in some extreme random acts of kindness. While Kristian is coy about whether or not the tune is based on true events, he isn’t shy to admit that he’s been the recipient of a random act of kindness.

“It’s a very odd feeling,” he explains. “It’s very much inspirational into a domino effect. You kind of want to it for someone else the moment something like that happens. Someone’s bought me dinner before and left the building. I thought, ‘Is that a secret admirer?’ But in truth it was just someone like, ‘Hey, I just wanted to buy you dinner.'”

Much like the lead single, Southern Gravity is filled with uplifting and joyful songs that reflect the attitude for which Kristian credits his mother.

“I’m relentlessly positive,” he says. “I figure this, I’ve had some really hard things happen in my life and I’m sure we’ve all have. You can either choose to let them sit on you or you can just keep moving and I think there’s a lot of power in that.”
