Country trio Lady A are emerging from a year-plus of challenges with brand new music, announcing the soon-to-arrive album, What a Song Can Do (Chapter One).

Marking the eighth studio set from Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, the album will reportedly take Lady A’s chart topping sound and apply it to their experience in 2020 — which included the pandemic and a socially-conscious name change. Revealing the news just weeks before its release, Lady A say the first half of their split-album release is dedicated to personal growth.

“There’s an interdependence that we have with each other, and music is at the center of that to me,” says Scott in an official statement. “We are all living in the now together…we’re all a work in progress, and that is what we wanted to share with these songs on the first chapter.”

Due on June 25 and featuring seven tracks, the project was produced by Grammy nominee Dann Huff, with each track on the first half penned by at least one member of the band.

That includes the comfortable-in-your-own-skin jam, “Like a Lady,” which Lady A had shared previously, and now the trio are adding the gentle nostalgia of “Things He Handed Down.” Co-written with Thomas Rhett and all about the wisdom of our elders, Lady A debuted the tender ballad at the Grand Ole Opry in May — their first Opry appearance after becoming members of the historic show.

Lady A will appear on the 2021 CMT Music Awards tonight (June 9), and are set for a return to the road with the 34 city What a Song Can Do Tour July 29 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
