Lauren Alaina Calls Her ACM New Female Vocalist Win a ‘Blur’

“I'm just sitting there, putting on my makeup, talking to everybody walking through, not paying attention at all, and then she hands me the phone and it's Reba McEntire to tell me that I've won an ACM. So it was a crazy day," Alaina admitted.

There was no hiding Lauren Alaina’s excitement when she got the call that she won the ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year award for 2018.

Leaving her completely speechless, Alaina found out about her victory during a phone chat with none other than Reba McEntire. Although the two talked for a bit once Alaina caught up to speed on the news and swallowed some of her tears, the singer immediately contacted her inner circle and reached out to her boyfriend before anyone else over the ACM win.

“It was such a blur, I don’t remember actually. I called Alex [my boyfriend], I think, first. Alex is the first person I told, and then I called my parents. I actually called my dad and FaceTimed him, and then my mom was coming to the show that night. It was the craziest day because Alex, my best friend and Alex’s best friend, who’s like, also my best friend, were driving up for the show, and then my mom, and my stepdad, and Alex’s parents were coming to the show in Kentucky. So it was the most random day for her to call and tell me that because my whole family just happened to be coming to the show, but my dad obviously wasn’t coming, so I FaceTimed dad,” she explained to Sounds Like Nashville and other media.

Although she admitted to not remembering much since she was just so overjoyed by the situation, Alaina still remembered how excited she was over the eventful news and tried to get it into her mom’s head that it all was real in the end.

“I’m just sitting there, putting on my makeup, talking to everybody walking through, not paying attention at all, and then she hands me the phone and it’s Reba McEntire to tell me that I’ve won an ACM. So it was a crazy day. Then when my family got there I showed them the video to tell them, and my mom was like, in shock. She didn’t even react, she was looking at me and she’s like, ‘When was this?,’ and I was like, ‘An hour ago.’ It was awesome and we were obviously very excited if you can tell by the video. I was pretty excited. I didn’t say a word and you know me. I’m never at a loss for words,” Alaina recalled.

With the career-changing win, Alaina will also get to perform during the ceremony to showcase her talent from her most recent album.

The 53rd Annual ACM Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 15, at 8 p.m. EST on the CBS Television Network.
