Dancing with the Stars: Lauren Alaina Channels Julia Roberts for Movie Night
DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Movie Night" - Lights, camera, action! It's Movie Night as 11 celebrity and pro-dancer couples compete on the third week of the 2019 season of "Dancing with the Stars," live, MONDAY, SEPT. 30 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/Eric McCandless) GLEB SAVCHENKO, LAUREN ALAINA

It was a fun evening on the third night of competition for season 28 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. With a theme of “Movie Night,” each couple was challenged to learn a dance set to a famous song from a film.

Unfortunately, before the dancing began, the audience learned that Ray Lewis had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury sustained during rehearsals. His professional partner, Cheryl Burke, performed their routine with season 24 winner, Rashad Jennings, standing in. This also meant no other couple was eliminated.

Lauren Alaina with Gleb Savchenko

Tango – “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison from Pretty Woman

Len: “This was full of attack, drive and purpose. A little bit stop and start here and there, but the tango you did, I thought was excellent…for attitude and getting out there, it was terrific.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 20

Hannah Brown with Alan Bersten

Rumba – “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips from Bridesmaids

Bruno: “You’re a wonderful, wonderful lyrical dancer. Everything on top moves beautifully with great finish and flourish. This being a Rumba, you have to use the floor more and engage the lower half. Push the feet through the floor.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 21

Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson

Jive – “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John from Rocketman

Carrie Ann: “That was not the greatest, and I can see it in your face, but what I love is you come out here and you entertain us and you make us feel joy and that is half of what this is about.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 16

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber

Rumba – “Dreaming of You” by Selena from Selena

Len: “You did four cucarachas. Normally, they put the costumes on you with fringe and it shows, but you didn’t. You were in a skimpy sort of whatever you call it and you could see that cucaracha fantastic. I was really enjoying the performance. And then, the clincher, you did a fan and an alemana and that finished me off.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 24

James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater

Rumba – “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from A Star Is Born

Bruno: “I can confidently say, there was nothing shallow about that performance…it’s harder for a man than for a woman to do the rumba because you have to complement the lady more than dancing for yourself. And when you danced with Emma, you made your partner look fantastic.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 23

Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashov

Quickstep – “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton from 9 to 5

Carrie Ann: “You are killing this game. I mean, that was so precise, absolutely synchronized. You’re working hard and it’s paying off.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 24

Lamar Odom and Peta Murgatroyd

Cha-cha-cha – “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger from Risky Business

Len: “What I like is I like to see you dance because you are so much fun and I was so optimistic about it and you were going along great. And then you got over here, you had to do a couple of basic steps and the wheels fell off a bit.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 12

Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkosvskiy

Tango – “Mamma Mia” by Abba from Mamma Mia!

Bruno: “I can really see that you’ve taken on board everything that we’ve said the past few weeks. You’ve worked very, very hard and it shows. Nothing unclear, nothing shaky, nothing uncertain. A great feel-good tango.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 23

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson

Rumba – “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion from Titanic

Carrie Ann: “Really solid dancing. I can tell how hard you’re working by the way you made every detail so specific, but you were a little tight. You have so much energy, it’s one of the best things about you, it’s going to take you really far. What you have to do is not put it away when you’re doing the things that feel uncomfortable. You have to find a way to spread it out.”

JUDGE’s TOTAL: 20

Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold

Cha-cha-cha – “Night Fever” by the Bee Gees from Saturday Night Fever

Len: “You walk along, your feet are great. You start to do New Yorks and things and your feet are so pigeon-toed, but you’ve mastered the roly-poly, I tell ya.”
