Lauren Alaina is heading back to her roots, as she prepares a triumphant return to the set of American Idol. The country hit maker famously came in second on American Idol’s 10th season, just behind friend and fellow country star Scotty McCreery, and now she’ll be a mentor to others.

Her appearance on the show takes place Monday (March 28), as the contestants head to Hollywood for Season 20.

“I am FLIPPING OUT to return to @americanidol as a guest mentor for #HollywoodWeek! I’ll be mentoring the country genre!” Alaina wrote on social media. “Tune in to Idol tonight to see who else joins us in Hollywood and I’ll see you next week on Monday, March 28 at 8/7c on ABC. #AmericanIdol”

It’s been over 10 years since Alaina took part in the primetime TV talent search, and she’s certainly come a long way. So far that it prompted a photo-and-video montage of her whole journey, from teenaged dreamer to “Getting Over Him” (with Jon Pardi).

In other news, the pun loving hit maker recently topped 1 million followers on Instagram, and shared a demo of the unreleased song, “Talking to God.”

She is currently featured on the CBS celebrity reality competition Beyond the Edge, where stars try to survive and thrive in the Panamanian jungle for charity.
