Lee Ann Womack “Call Me Crazy” Review

It’s been 3 years since we’ve heard new music from Lee Ann Womack. Her latest release “Call Me Crazy” was worth the wait. I have to admit, this is not music that I would typically listen to, but it’s good music- good country music. Lee Ann still has a way of capturing the traditional country music themes and sound in her music where most of today’s top country women do not.

Like a lot of albums, there’s a mix of great songs, and just ok songs, and a few to skip. I love “Last Call,” the current single. Such a classic theme- the dirtbag guy calling the girl…I love that she doesn’t pick up the phone!I really like the sound of the third track, “Solitary Thinkin’.” It’s almost mesmerizing…I like it.

Lee Ann gets some help from two of country’s hottest men- Keith Urban and George Strait. Keith sings backup vocals in “The Bees” and George lends his vocals in their duet, “Everything But Quits.” I like both songs. Again, very country, and great songs.

I could go without “New Again” and “I Think I Know.” They just didn’t do it for me. Maybe they could grow on me, but I don’t think so.

I do think she should try to change up the theme of her songs. I feel like a lot of them were about breaking up, drinking, or both. I want to hear a happy song every now and then, ya know?

Overall, it’s a great cd. Lee Ann is very talented and I LOVE that she sticks to the roots of traditional country music. Again, this isn’t a cd I would typically listen to, but there is no denying that she is very talented.
